SAMCEF Thermal enables you to model all thermal effects affecting structures, including conduction, convection and radiation. All classical boundary conditions are available in SAMCEF Thermal: thermal contact and gluing, forced convection including transfer coefficients and view factors. View factors are extremely important to compute accurately when dealing with radiation flux. Structures can be made of isotropic, orthotropic or anisotropic materials. Multi layers composite material can also be modeled, including composite pipes. Both boundary conditions and material properties can depend on time and temperature. This induces the need for a non-linear computation. SAMCEF Thermal uses the same infrastructure as SAMCEF Non-Linear solvers. It benefits of all the features that are widely used for non-linear mechanical analyses. Coupled thermo-mechanical analyses can be easily carried out. The simplest way to do it is to compute a temperature field and map it on the structure to use it as an extra load. But it is also possible to run fully coupled analyses, where thermal and mechanical responses are computed at the same time. In that case, effects like heat generation due to friction or plastification are naturally taken into account. SAMCEF Thermal also features an extra module, called SAMCEF Abltion, dedicated to thermal ablation phenomena. SAMCEF Alation is dedicated to study and control charring of material occurring during re-entry of space vehicles or rockets in the atmosphere. Modeling is based on Arrhé nius type laws of varying levels of complexity.
